Super Tuesday
I am a rather political person. I often get very excited about elections and love the whole democratic process. Usually the candidate I support loses, causing me lots of heartache, but still the whole process is just wonderful in my eyes.
I truly believe that Hillary Clinton will make a wonderful president.
I received an email from someone I used to know (He is an Obama supporter and I assume sent his email to many people on his list. I thought I'd be able to reply to all of them but it turned out I could only reply to him (he hid the addresses of the other people on the list). I decided I'd post his email (that IMO represents what is wrong with the reasons (or should I say lack of reasons) some people support Obama) as well as my reply here:
Brad's email:
Hi All,
Here are a few different videos to check out of Barak Obama. He's the only politician that has ever caught my attention-- because I sense he's hooked up spiritually. As change is dependent on our coming together as a people, he is the only person that has the gift to do this. He's a leader first, ala MLK or JFK-- truly inspirational. And besides, I'm unlikely to pay any attention if anyone else gets elected. With Barak, there's hope for the transformation we need.
Please take the time to consider supporting this remarkable leader with your vote this Tuesday.
Take Care.
Brad
My reply:
Dear Brad,
It is great that you are involved politically in this very important election year.
I however, believe strongly that Hilary Clinton is a far better choice for president.
While Barak Obama may or may not be hooked up spiritually (something that can by the way be said of Mike Huckabee who I consider to be the most scary candidate out there) he has shown very little proof as to his ability and experience to get big things done. For example yesterday in the NY times there was a front page article about how a bill he bragged about several times in debates in which he was trying to force nuclear plants to tell people even if only "minor" contaminations have occurred has been watered down by Obama to an extent that it is now completely meaningless. This happened because the major nuclear power provider in Obama's state is one of his greatest election contributes. He also has absolutely 0 background in matters of international policy making (for example his idea of giving an exact date of when troops will be pulled out of Iraq shows that he does not learn from other countries mistakes. That is what Israel did in Lebanon and the results were terrible. Yes America should pull out and yes it should be as soon as possible (as Hilary says). But giving a date allows the insurgents to prepare and basically chase the forces out which may cause an awful lot of unnecessary carnage and give the insurgents a big boost (as it did in Isreal, which in the end caused the war last summer)).
Hilary in contrast, while as different as Obama from the current administration in matters of policy, has a proven record and proven experience. She has dedicated her life to issues that are dear to me (health care, the underprivileged) and is supported by a majority of people who are the backbone of any socially oriented party (workers, the lower middle class and the poor). She also has a proven record in international matters and is the best equipped to get the US out of Iraq in the safest and least costly manner possible.
For me the first female presidential candidate, one who is so competent and so right about so many issues is more than sufficient to keep my attention.
Take care,
